For Albert Zartman, fishing has always been about more than catching fish. It’s about family, tradition, and creating memories that last a lifetime. What began as a young boy fishing alongside his dad and grandpa at local lakes has grown into a tradition he now shares with his own children, keeping the family’s love for fishing alive for the next generation.
Growing up, Albert learned the value of time spent on the water. Those early fishing trips with his dad and grandpa helped shape his passion for the outdoors and taught him that some of the best moments in life happen with a fishing rod in hand and family by your side. Today, he carries those lessons forward by taking his kids fishing year-round, giving them the opportunity to experience the same excitement, patience, and appreciation for the outdoors that he grew up with.
One of Albert’s favorite places to fish with his family is Baker Lake, where they pursue salmon and enjoy time together on the water. Whether they’re preparing for a sockeye fishing trip or spending another day outdoors, every outing brings a new opportunity to make memories.

When targeting sockeye, Albert relies on proven tackle and techniques, including Mack’s Lure Sling Blades, and Smile Blades. These tools are part of his fishing approach, but the real reward goes far beyond what ends up in the cooler.
“Any fishing trip with my family is a memorable moment,” Albert says.
For him, the value of a trip isn’t measured by the number of fish caught. It’s found in the laughter, the little victories, the lessons learned, and the time spent together. From the excitement of a fish on the line to the simple experience of being out on the lake, these are the moments that make family fishing so special.
“Lots of good memories with the kids,” he reflects. Those memories are what keep Albert coming back to the water with his family, season after season.
Taking a child fishing is about much more than teaching them how to cast a line or reel in a fish. It’s an opportunity to slow down, spend quality time together, and build a connection that can last a lifetime.
For parents, watching a child experience the excitement of catching their first fish or simply seeing their face light up during a day on the water can become a core memory. For the child, those same moments can become cherished childhood experiences that shape their own love for fishing and the outdoors.
Albert understands the importance of making those experiences part of his children’s lives. By fishing with them year-round, he’s doing more than sharing a hobby. He’s teaching patience, creating opportunities to learn, and showing them the value of carrying on family traditions.
The impact may not always be obvious in the moment. Years down the road, however, a child might look back and remember early mornings, family conversations, the anticipation of a bite, and the feeling of being together on the lake. Those experiences can become some of the most meaningful memories of growing up.
For Albert, fishing with his kids is also a way of honoring the people who first introduced him to the sport. The lessons and memories he gained from his dad and grandpa continue to live on through every trip he takes with his own family.

One day, his children may find themselves taking their own kids fishing, sharing the same techniques, telling the same stories, and creating new memories of their own. What started with a young boy learning to fish alongside his family becomes a tradition passed down through generations. That is the lasting value of family fishing.
The fish may come and go, the seasons may change, and the years may pass, but the memories made together remain. Albert Zartman’s story is a reminder that you don’t need a trophy catch or a perfect day on the water to make a fishing trip worthwhile.
Sometimes, all it takes is a lake, a few fishing rods, and the people who matter most. Because when you take your kids fishing, you’re not just teaching them how to catch fish. You’re giving them memories to carry for the rest of their lives and perhaps inspiring them to pass the tradition on to the next generation.
