Video: Smile Blade Fishing Attributes

The Smile Blade is an ultra light-weight, mylar spinner blade that adds tremendous attraction to any fishing lure.

It's excellent for slow trolling as it will spin at speeds as low as 1/4 mph. It comes in 40 different colors and 5 sizes to meet your fishing needs.

The Revolutionary Smile Blade:

By Bobby Loomis

My Take on the Most Versatile Spinner on the Market
When we first started developing the Smile Blade, I had no idea it would become what I consider probably one of the most versatile spinner blades on the market today. Let me tell you why this little piece of fishing innovation has changed the game for anglers everywhere.

Why We Called It the “Smile Blade”

The name came naturally – when you look at this inline offset spinner blade, it literally looks like a smile. But there’s much more to it than just the appearance. The unique offset design is what makes this blade truly special. When you pinch it together, you can see how the blades are offset compared to each other, and that’s an extreme attribute that sets it apart from anything else out there.

The Inline Advantage That Creates Crankbait Action

What I love most about the Smile Blade is that being an inline spinner blade, when it rotates around, it also moves the product behind it – any type of lure, bait, whatever you’ve got behind your spinner blade. It moves it back and forth almost like a crankbait type action. This secondary action is something you just can’t get with traditional spinner blades.

Ultra-Lightweight Performance

One of the biggest attributes of the Smile Blade is obviously being lightweight. I’ve designed it using ultra-lightweight mylar material, which is much lighter than metal alternatives. The beauty of this design is that it doesn’t matter whether you’ve got a larger 2.8 Smile Blade – I can barely blow on it and you can see that it spins. It’ll spin at less than 1/4 mile an hour and still rotate.
I always demonstrate this with both large and small sizes. Even our smallest 0.8 size, which I often rig up in front of a small swimbait, takes nothing to move it. This ultra-low activation speed opens up fishing opportunities that simply weren’t possible with heavier spinner blades.

Customizable Action Through Blade Adjustment

Here’s where the Smile Blade really shines in versatility. Even though it’s only lightweight mylar, you can pinch the blade together and it stays in that position. When you pinch it together like that, you get a fast, less vigorous type of movement. But if I turn around and widen it out, I get an extremely erratic movement and a slower rotation than if I pinched it together.
This tunability means you can adjust the blade’s performance based on:
  • Pinched closer: Faster spin for current or deep water fishing
  • Spread wider: Slower spin with more erratic movement for finicky fish

Extensive Color and Pattern Options

The Smile Blade comes in four different patterns:
  • Scale pattern
  • Sparkle pattern
  • Mirror pattern
  • Tiger pattern
Initially, each pattern had eight different colors, but we have expanded the lineup significantly. We actually added two more to the scale pattern, giving us ten models to choose from, and we added another seven models in the tiger pattern, so we’ve got a total of fifteen in the tiger pattern.
The blades come in six different sizes, and while the two larger sizes (3.3 and 2.8) have about six models each, all the rest from 1.9 on down come in the full range of patterns and colors. With over 40 colors and five sizes available, there really isn’t anything that you can’t do – whether you want to match the hatch, create something with beads, create something with a hoochie, or create something with a fly.

Versatility Across All Fishing Conditions

What makes me proudest of the Smile Blade is its incredible versatility. You can fish it in fresh or saltwater – it cannot rust. The design and lightweight construction make it more snag-proof than traditional metal blades, so it can be trolled through weedy areas more effectively.
The Smile Blade vigorously shakes bait or lure back and forth, adding tremendous attraction to any fishing lure without inhibiting any type of lure or bait. It’s excellent for slow trolling applications where other blades simply won’t perform.

Essential Rigging Tip

One crucial point I always emphasize: always use a bead chain swivel when fishing with Smile Blades. This ensures optimal performance and prevents line twist that could diminish the blade’s effectiveness.

My Final Thoughts

The Smile Blade represents everything I believe a modern fishing lure component should be – versatile, effective, and adaptable to any fishing situation. Whether you’re targeting freshwater species or venturing into saltwater, whether you’re slow trolling or need that extra attraction in tough conditions, the Smile Blade delivers consistent results.
It’s an absolutely fantastic product and addition or attractor to add to everything in your tackle box. After years of development and refinement, I’m confident that the Smile Blade will revolutionize how you approach your fishing, just as it has for countless anglers who’ve discovered its unique capabilities.
